Best Practices in Mediation

with Geetha Ravindra, JD

(Fulfills all 8 hours of training, including 2 of ethics, required for re-certification of Virginia mediators)

Whether you are a new or experienced mediator, it is important to be aware of mediation best practices and pitfalls. This session will provide in-depth analysis of The Guidelines on Mediation and the Unauthorized Practice of Law, and the Standards of Ethics for Certified Mediators, as they relate to the appropriate role of the mediator in providing information versus advice and preparing effective mediated agreements. The course will review the areas in which mediators most often receive negative evaluations and complaints. Through interactive discussion and exercises, participants will gain a greater understanding of the ethical and statutory expectations of certified mediators, which will in turn support a high quality mediation practice.
