First: The first thing you will need to do is talk to the other person(s) with whom you would like to
mediate. Let him/her know that this is an option you think would be beneficial in your situation.
Offer him/her the website address so s/he can research the option for him/herself.

If you have already done this great! You are ready for the next step. If you have not done this and feel that the communication between you and the other person(s) is not adequate to have the conversation, you may call the office and request that we contact him/her to assess if s/he are willing to consider mediation.

Second: Fill out an inquiry form or call NVMS at 703.865.7263

Third: Complete the Intake Process: if you submit an your inquiry form you will be contacted within 24 hours so that we can complete the intake process with you. Or you can call us at any time to do your intake over the phone with the Mediation Case Coordinator.

The intake process allows us to fully explain mediation, talk to you about your situation, and answer any questions you might have and talk about scheduling options. Please note that there is a one time $25 intake, scheduling and process fee per person for each case. We only charge you this fee if both parties decide to move forward with mediation and schedule a first session.

Fourth: Schedule your first session: after we receive the inquiry forms for and spoken to everyone involved in your case we will send an e-mail to you with scheduling information. We will send a final confirmation letter to each party with the date, time, location, mediator(s), and fee for your first session.

Finally: You are ready to start! Attend your first session. We will send instructions to you regarding the information you need to know for your mediation session including location, address, and parking information. Your mediators will usually arrive before you, but please try to be on time.

Please note that once we send a final confirmation letter to you, if you need to  reschedule, you must call at least 24 hours in advance, unless you discuss possible scheduling issues prior to mediation with the Mediation Case Coordinator.

If we schedule a first session and you fail to appear you will be charged an amount equal to an hour of mediation.
