Elder Mediation as a Resource for Seniors
There are many available resources for aging individuals. There are caregivers, elder law attorneys, nursing homes and geriatric care managers to name a few. There is even a SourceBook for retirement living in the DC Metro Area that is 200+ pages long. However, when looking for resources, the one thing that you might not easily find is a mediator specializing in senior decision making and elder issues.
Although mediation is most commonly used for divorce and separation, it is appropriate for many types of conflicts and it helps people who are going through one of the most difficult times in their lives come out with long lasting and satisfying resolutions. Issues relating to the care of seniors is just as, if not more difficult than divorce/separation and mediation is just as appropriate.
