Co-Parenting Classes/Clases de Padres

Co-Parenting Classes/Clases de Padres

As a member of Resolution Virginia, NVMS receives a portion of funds awarded by the Department of Social Services to conflict resolution centers across the state  to provide Co-Parenting classes in English and Spanish. The class is free of charge for clients with an active child support enforcement case.

The co-parenting program is a four-hour class designed to assist parents/guardians  in focusing on the responsibilities of parenting from separate households. Participants will learn strategies to keeps children out of the middle as they negotiate custody, visitation, child support or divorce.

Topics covered include:

  • The challenges of parenting from separate homes
  • How to improve communication between parents/guardians
  • Recognizing the impact of separation/divorce on children
  • Accepting different parenting styles
  • Identifying options for conflict resolution

English classes are currently offered once per month, and Spanish classes are offered once every other month. We have two different trainers who are contracted by NVMS to teach Co-Parenting classes.

NVMS aims to generate positive behaviors and healthy relationships in separated families. The period of separation or divorce is a difficult time for both children and parents. When parents are more aware of the effects of separation and divorce on their children and their parenting responsibilities, they will be more child-focused in the development of their parenting plans and will resolve conflicts without returning to court.

Clients interested in registering for our next Co-Parenting class must have an active child support case, and be able to provide that case number.

Si le interesa inscribirse por la siguiente clase de padres, debe tener un caso de manutención de menores, con un número de caso que puede proveer cuando llama para inscribirse.
