FAMILY MEDIATION COORDINATION
Contract, Hourly, 25-30 hours/week, $17/hour
The family mediation coordinator oversees daily operations and administration of NVMS’s Family Mediation Programs. Such responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, private family and interpersonal conflicts, court- referred child support cases, child custody, co-parenting issues, divorce or separation, family reunification, difficult conversations between children and parents, and more. The position requires 25-30 hours of work per week with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Stewarding relationships with family mediators
- Update and manage mediator and co-parenting trainer contact list
- Conduct periodic case update meetings with mediators, as needed
- Coordinate Community of Practice workshops to further hone mediators’ skills
- Track the progress of all cases at all phases of completion
- Complete mediation intakes for family court-referred and private mediation cases
- Assign cases to mediators
- Coordinate scheduling for virtual or in person mediation
- Aid mediator in troubleshooting problems encountered during mediation process
- Conduct case management for DCSE court-referred mediation cases, as well as private family and interpersonal conflicts
- Ensure that all case documents are completed, accurate, saved in NVMS’ family mediation database, and disseminated to appropriate, relevant parties, as needed
- Ensure that coordination of the mediation is implemented consistently with protocol and in a timely manner
- Coordinate Co-Parenting courses
- Organize monthly English and Spanish Co-Parenting classes
- Coordinate with Co-Parenting class instructor
- Coordinate family Co-Parenting class registration and reporting
- Conduct marketing for Co-Parenting class
- Completes monthly and quarterly grant reporting for Co-Parenting mediation program
- Conduct administrative coordination of client services
- Provide client billing client information to the operations coordinator for invoicing
- Complete stipend reports for mediators and co-parenting class instructors
- Manage database records for cases and classes
- Submit invoicing information for mediation services rendered monthly
- Track case management data and ensure that data is accurate, complete, and processed in a timely manner
- General program support
- Complete grant reports required as a grant recipient of the Fairfax County Consolidated Funding Pool
- Work with supervisor to ensure fidelity and consistency for the mediation process and explore opportunities to improve processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferred in conflict resolution, criminal justice, social work, or related field
- Well-spoken with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, set priorities and manage time efficiently
- Experience that demonstrates organizational and administrative skills and keen attention to detail (executive assisting, scheduling, coordinating, documenting, etc.)
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel; Access Database a plus
- Ability to conduct business using virtual platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams
- Confidence to coach others in the use of technology and the case management process
- Fluency in Spanish a plus
TRAINING PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Contract, Hourly, 15-20 hours/week, $17/hour
NVMS Conflict Resolution Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Fairfax, Virginia. An affiliate of George Mason University, NVMS Conflict Resolution Center is engaged in mediation, facilitation and conflict management/mediation training and certification. Our team’s hallmarks are our desire to be of service to our community, our work ethic, and our adaptability to meet the challenges of the day. In 2023, we are expanding our reach to under-resourced communities in the Northern Virginia area. It is an exciting time for the right person to join our team!
NVMS CRC is seeking a Training Program Assistant as an hourly contract hire, working a minimum of 15 hours/weekly, at $17.00/hr. The incumbent may participate in any NVMS training (at their/his/her own time—outside contract hours), after three months in the position. NVMS provides no other benefits.
Performance of work will be carried out in a hybrid work environment, working in person at least one day a week, arranged with the Training Coordinator. The successful candidate will be up to date with Covid 19 vaccination and booster shots. The incumbent will report to the Training Program Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL NEEDS
Program
- Support the Training Program Department.
- Maintain the Training pages on the NVMS website and develop training marketing visuals for the website.
- Maintain and update the Thinkific learning platform.
- Maintain and update the Training Registration Tracker.
- Monitor mediation certification trainee course attendance.
- Help secure CME, CLE, SHRM accreditation for training courses.
- Provide administrative support.

INTERNSHIPS
The NVMS Conflict Resolution Center offers opportunities for students to perform unpaid, credit-based internships, throughout the year. All positions are also available as externships and volunteer opportunities.
Interns develop skills in mediation and conflict resolution, communication, client service, administration, case management, training design and delivery, marketing and non-profit management. Interns also have the opportunity to work closely with a dedicated group of staff, mediators, and trainers.
COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
Internship duration: (Part-time: 15 hours/week); college credit available.
Internship Description:
The Communications Intern will work closely with Program Managers as well as the Executive Director to promote NVMS services. NVMS is seeking a highly creative, motivated and organized intern who is interested in contributing to a greater cause. The ideal candidate would support website content design, social media outreach as well as fundraising ideas.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare content for social media outreach and marketing activities.
- Update NVMS online presence through its website, social media tools, and outreach materials.
- Develop communication themes and messages.
- Assist with developing marketing and fundraising ideas.
Qualifications:
- Specialization in: Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business or relevant field.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Social media savvy.
- Experience maintaining website content on WordPress platform.
- Previous experience with marketing and or communications desired.
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and great attention to detail.

TRAINING PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Training Program Development Internship Description
Internship duration: (Part-time: 20 hours); college credit available.
Description: NVMS has been designing and delivering intensive skill-based workshops on collaborative practices since 1990. From mediation (one-on-one conflict resolution) to large-group facilitation and consensus-building, our workshops offer a wealth of practical training. NVMS offers over 30 different workshops on alternative dispute resolution, mediation, facilitation, and negotiation. Our training program provides learning opportunities to many organizations, both governmental and private, and thousands of individuals. As an intern, you will be gain first-hand experience in developing effective conflict resolution trainings for a variety of audiences. You will have a chance to work with subject matter experts from fields of conflict and peacebuilding, mediation, law, education, human resources, management, and organizational development.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the program through collaboration with NVMS colleagues and partner organizations.
- Contributing to the creation of instructional materials (e.g. manuals, activities, handouts, etc.).
- Supporting program manager in developing strategies that will enhance the learning experience across various groups of trainees.
- Daily administrative tasks such as: answering client phone and email inquiries printing and preparing materials for ongoing workshops.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a master’s program.
- Pursuing a degree in education, instructional design, education technology, conflict resolution or any related field.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office programs.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator preferred, not required.
- Experience working with the creation of educational materials highly preferred, not required.
- Team player with excellent communications skills.
- Strong passion for community engagement and conflict resolution.

COURT MEDIATION INTERN
Internship duration: (Part-time: 20 hours); college credit available.
Description: NVMS holds contracts with local courts in Fairfax County, Loudon County, Arlington County, and the City of Falls Church to provide mediation services. Our mediators appear in each of these courts to mediate for plaintiffs and defendants who elect this option as an alternative to a traditional hearing. The court mediation process is free of charge for parties and is coordinated by NVMS. The Court Mediation Intern will support program implementation for all four contracts. In addition, the intern will support the data management for NVMS’s restorative justice program the Alternative Accountability Program.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with coordinating mediators for Fairfax Small Claims Court mediations each Friday.
- Compile case files to be processed and submitted to the Virginia Supreme Court for payment and recordkeeping.
- Track program results in NVMS database.
- General office duties: filing, answering phones, organizing.
- Oversee AAP database management, case file entry and occasional programmatic activities.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, master’s or a law degree program.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office programs.
- Familiarity with Access database preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- Team player with excellent communications skills.
- Strong passion for conflict resolution.
